Do I have to create an Adobe account to use my Sony Ebook Reader?

I just got one for Christmas and Im trying to download a book, but remains Adobe asks for my password. But I looked onlne and you have to pay $ 10 a month to register. Cannot I just downloaded the book without having to ay another $ 10 a month?

You should not have to pay any monthly fees for setting up your e-Book Reader. Sony Digital Editions accounts are free, as are the accounts in the shop Sony. (The books are not free, but the accounts are themselves.) Sounds like the book itself is a kind of subscription rather than a book.
