Bloody Point is the extreme south of the island of Daufuskie. It was given this name because of the bloodshed during the War of 1715 Yamasee.
Original range lights
In 1871, the U.S. Congress authorized two sets of range lights on Daufuskie Island. The lights of other ranks were Haig Light point range in the far north of the island. In 1882, 6.72acres (27,200 m2) was acquired by Bloody Point lights.
Front Range Light is a red kerosene lamp placed in an attic with gabled facade of the lightkeeper's house. This house, which was built by James C. Lacoste, was located near the beach in 1.72acres (7,000 m2). The light was at a height of 27feet (8m).
The rear light was a 91feet (28m) of height triangular iron skeleton tower, manufactured by the manufacture of Cooper of Mount Vernon, Ohio. John Michael Doyle, who was an employee of the manufacturer, oversaw construction tower on a concrete base in 5acres (20,000 m2) on the field 4350 feet (1,326 m) to the inside of the front light. Doyle became the first light keeper. A brick house of the lamp, which was also called wick house was built in the base of the tower to the house of light during the day. At night, the lamp red vapor with a parabolic reflector was raised on rails at a height of 81feet (25m). The Bloody point range lights were lit in 1883. A near the brick house oil for storage of kerosene was also built.
Later, the configuration
Due to erosion, the front light was moved in 1899 to a place near the taillight, which was dismantled. In his new position, became the backlight. A 45feet (14m), wooden house on the legs of metal was placed in a leased land near the shore. The metal legs resting on the metal disks that might be slid down the beach and the channel changed. This light was moved several times over the next twenty years. The range lights were deactivated in 1922.
In 1925, the house was sold lightkeeper. The light from the Front Range were lost due to erosion. The home was sold at auction and then sold his last light keeper, Gus Ohman. In 1926, was sold to a former assistant light keeper, Arthur A. "Grandpa" Burn, Jr., who lived there for 40 years. In 1953, Papy Burn started making blackberry wine using, elberberries, scuppernongs, and other fruits in the lamp home and / or home oil. Although wine making was a small operation, called the construction of the Silver Dew Winery.
